**Export to EU**: CE marking is mandatory. As a compulsory safety conformity mark, it serves as a “passport” for accessing the European market. It mainly proves that the product meets the EU’s essential requirements for health, safety and environmental protection, instead of acting as a quality certification.
**Export to Russia / Five Central Asian Countries**: EAC certification is mandatory. This mandatory certification has replaced previous national certifications such as GOST and enables free circulation of goods within the Eurasian Economic Union.
**Export to the United States**: ASME Ustamp is generally required. It is a key access credential for pressure vessels entering the US market and many other regions recognising ASME standards, focusing on technical specifications for design, materials, manufacturing processes and inspection. Besides, FDA registration or clearance is required under the regulation of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
**Export to Canada**: Electrical and electronic products normally require CSA certification issued by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA), Canada’s largest safety certification body. The CSA mark is usually an essential safety prerequisite for electrical, electronic and gaspowered equipment to enter the Canadian market.
**ISO 9001**: It demonstrates an enterprise’s ability to consistently supply products and services that satisfy customer requirements and applicable legal and regulatory requirements. It is often an advantage in international trade or a precondition for customer procurement.
Reputable manufacturers can deliver corresponding CE / ISO certificates together with GMP validation supporting documents (IQ/OQ/PQ protocols and templates) along with equipment.
**CE Certification**: Mandatory for medicalgrade and certain industrial freeze dryers exported to the EU. Manufacturers can provide EC Declaration of Conformity and excerpts of technical construction files. Models for nonEU markets may not hold this certification.
Relevant documents: EU Declaration of Conformity (DoC), test reports (mechanical, EMC, LVD, etc.), technical construction files. It is necessary to confirm whether the equipment is certified under MDR or the LowVoltage Directive.
**ISO Certificates**: Normally ISO 9001 (quality management system); ISO 13485 is required for some medical models. Certificates belong to the manufacturer rather than individual units, yet copies can be provided with shipments.
Relevant documents: Copies of manufacturer’s ISO 9001 / ISO 13485 certificates (check validity and scope of certification). Please note that certificates are issued to the manufacturing plant, not to single equipment units.
**GMP Documents**: GMP stands for Good Manufacturing Practice. No “GMP certificate” is granted to equipment itself. Qualified manufacturers can supply DQ/IQ/OQ/PQ validation protocols, templates and onsite execution assistance to help pharmaceutical customers pass audits.
Relevant deliverables: Protocol templates and record sheets for Design Qualification (DQ), Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ) and Performance Qualification (PQ), plus validation support services. All deliverables shall be specified in the contract in advance.
**Important Notes**:
Laboratorygrade and foodgrade models usually come only with CE / ISO and **do not include GMP validation packages**. Validation services are standard for pharmaceutical / biotech pilotscale and industrial freeze dryers.
Make sure to clearly specify the document delivery list, language versions and audit support obligations in the procurement contract to avoid missing documents after equipment arrival.
Beware of claims of “GMPcertified equipment”: equipment cannot obtain a GMP certificate; only GMPcompliant validation documents and process records are available.
